Understanding the two publishing paths

All six packages include preparation for Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions.

Amazon ISBN packages use free ISBNs supplied by Amazon KDP for the paperback and hardcover editions. Those ISBNs may only be used for the corresponding KDP print editions. You remain responsible for and in control of your Amazon KDP account.

SSEE Imprint packages use separate paperback and hardcover ISBNs purchased and assigned by SS Eisenhauer Enterprises LLC. SSEE Publishing appears as the publisher of record, while you retain copyright ownership of your original work and receive eligible Amazon royalties directly through your KDP account.

Kindle eBooks published through Amazon KDP do not ordinarily require an ISBN. Every SSEE Imprint project requires a written publishing and rights agreement before either print ISBN is assigned.

Professional support without giving up ownership or control

Publishing support should help you move your book forward without taking ownership of your work away from you. SSEE provides practical preparation, technical assistance, and publishing guidance while keeping authors informed and involved throughout the process.

Your work remains yours

You retain copyright ownership of your original manuscript and creative work. SSEE does not claim authorship or ownership of the material you provide for publication.

Your publishing path is clearly defined

Amazon ISBN packages are prepared for publication through your own Amazon KDP account. SSEE Imprint projects use separate purchased ISBNs and a written publishing and rights agreement that clearly defines SSEE’s publisher role.

Your royalties remain yours

Eligible Amazon royalties are paid through the KDP account associated with the published editions. SSEE service fees are for the publishing work and support included in the package you select.

Your approval matters

You review and approve the manuscript, cover, book information, pricing, and final publishing files before publication or submission is completed.

What you are paying for

Amazon KDP does not charge authors simply to open an account or upload a qualifying book. SSEE service fees cover the professional preparation, formatting, cover work, metadata support, publishing guidance, technical assistance, revisions, and other services included in the publishing package selected by the author.

Publishing Services

Written estimate before work begins

The manuscript and requested services are reviewed before a final price, project scope, payment schedule, included revisions, and expected deliverables are placed in writing.

Third-party costs remain separate

Purchased ISBNs, copyright registration, licensed images, custom illustrations, proof copies, printing charges, advertising, and other third-party expenses are not included unless specifically stated in the written agreement.

Package services are not charged twice

When a service is already included in a publishing package, its individual price is not added to that package. Individual pricing applies when the service is purchased separately or when additional work beyond the written package scope is requested and approved.

The Publishing Process

A clear path from manuscript to published book

Every project follows a defined review, agreement, production, approval, and publication process. The exact work depends on the publishing package or individual services selected, but the author remains informed and involved throughout the project.

Submit your project

Tell us about your manuscript, subject, intended audience, approximate word count, desired formats, available files, current stage of development, and publishing goals.

Project review

We review the material to determine its condition, production requirements, technical needs, requested formats, and whether additional work is needed beyond the selected publishing package.

Confirm the scope

The project scope identifies the selected package or individual services, price, payment terms, included revisions, responsibilities, deliverables, and any separately approved work before production begins.

Book production

The approved manuscript moves through the applicable editing, formatting, cover preparation, metadata development, Kindle preparation, print production, and other services included in the project.

Author review and approval

You review the prepared manuscript, cover, book information, and publishing files and provide consolidated corrections for each revision round included in the project scope.

Submission and publication

After final approval, the completed editions move to the appropriate publishing account and submission process for the publishing path selected. Amazon reviews submitted KDP editions before making them available for sale.

Nothing moves to final publication without author approval. Amazon or another applicable platform may identify technical issues or require corrections during its independent review. Any additional work required after submission is handled according to the services, revisions, and responsibilities established in the written project scope.

Before Production Begins

A prepared project leads to a smoother publishing process

Publishing preparation works best when the manuscript is substantially complete, the necessary source materials are available, and the major content decisions have been identified before layout and cover production begin.

If your manuscript still requires substantial writing, restructuring, research, permissions work, developmental editing, or reconstruction, those needs should be identified before final production begins so the correct scope and services can be established.

A substantially complete manuscript

Submit the manuscript as one editable file whenever possible rather than separate chapters, screenshots, partial drafts, or an unorganized collection of documents.

Rights to use submitted material

The author must own, license, or otherwise have appropriate permission to use the text, photographs, illustrations, charts, quotations, and other material submitted for publication.

Author and book information

Be prepared to provide or confirm the author name, book title, subtitle, biography, book summary, intended audience, acknowledgments, and other publication information needed for the selected formats.

Production decisions

During the project, you will confirm the intended formats, trim size, paper and interior choices, cover finish, pricing direction, and whether the print editions will use Amazon-issued ISBNs or SSEE-assigned ISBNs.

One authorized decision-maker

Each project should identify the person authorized to approve the manuscript, cover, revisions, publication information, pricing direction, and final files before submission or publication.

Publishing Questions

Important answers before starting

These answers explain the working relationship between the author, SS Eisenhauer Enterprises LLC Publishing, Amazon KDP, and the two publishing paths available through SSEE.

Does SSEE own my manuscript or copyright?

No. The author retains copyright ownership of the author’s original work. SSEE does not claim authorship or ownership of the manuscript.

An SSEE Imprint project requires limited publishing permissions defined in a written publishing and rights agreement, but assigning an ISBN or identifying SSEE as publisher of record does not transfer the author’s copyright.

Who controls the Amazon KDP account?

For Amazon ISBN publishing packages, the author maintains control of the author’s Amazon KDP account, payment information, tax information, pricing decisions, and eligible royalty payments.

SSEE Imprint projects follow the account, ISBN, publisher, and administration arrangements defined in the written publishing agreement for that project.

Authors should never provide private passwords, banking passwords, or other unrelated account credentials to SSEE.

What is the difference between an Amazon ISBN and an SSEE ISBN?

Amazon provides free ISBNs for eligible paperback and hardcover editions published through KDP. Those ISBNs are assigned through Amazon and are limited to the corresponding KDP print editions.

An SSEE ISBN is purchased and assigned by SS Eisenhauer Enterprises LLC. SSEE Publishing is identified as the publisher of record for that edition, while the author retains copyright ownership of the author’s original work.

Does each book format require a separate ISBN?

Paperback and hardcover editions require separate ISBNs because they are separate publishing formats.

A standard Kindle eBook published through Amazon KDP does not ordinarily require an ISBN.

Does the package include editing?

The fixed-price publishing packages assume that the author is submitting a substantially complete manuscript.

Proofreading, copyediting, developmental editing, rewriting, research, permissions work, and substantial manuscript reconstruction are not included unless specifically stated in the selected package or written project scope.

What happens if my manuscript needs additional work?

If the manuscript requires work outside the selected package, SSEE will identify the additional need before that work is performed.

Additional services require the author’s written approval and may require a separate estimate or additional payment.

Can SSEE guarantee that Amazon will approve my book?

No. SSEE prepares publishing files according to the applicable specifications, but Amazon independently reviews submitted books and retains authority over acceptance, rejection, availability, removal, and requested corrections.

Are book sales, reviews, rankings, or royalties guaranteed?

No. Publishing makes a book available for potential purchase, but it does not guarantee sales, reviews, rankings, royalties, profit, audience growth, discoverability, or other financial results.

Will my book be included in the SSEE author catalog?

Author catalog presentation is included with qualifying publishing packages and may also be provided under certain SSEE publishing agreements.

Catalog placement remains subject to successful publication, accurate information, appropriate content, and compliance with the applicable package terms or publishing agreement.

How are project changes and revisions handled?

Each publishing package includes a stated number of coordinated revision rounds. Authors should submit requested corrections as one consolidated list for each included revision round.

Additional revision rounds, major content changes, new material, redesign requests, or changes made after final approval may require additional fees and a revised project scope.

Do I approve the book before it is published?

Yes. The author reviews and approves the manuscript, cover, book information, pricing direction, and final publishing files before final submission or publication.
